MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G 6nm chipset with 120Hz display and 108MP camera support launched
MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G chipset has officially launched and aims to bring premium features to high-end smartphones. The Dimensity 900 follows the Dimensity 700 and Dimensity 800 series of processors and has been fabricated on a 6nm architecture process. The Dimensity 900 5G supports WiFi 6, 120Hz displays and a 108MP camera, features that are usually seen on premium flagship smartphones.
The MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset has an octa-core CPU that has two Arm Cortex-A78 performance cores running at 2.4GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 2GHz. The chipset is compatible with LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage as well. The Dimensity 900 also brings Mali-G68 GPU with an AI processing unit that the company claims is extremely power-efficient when working with AI-based apps and 4K HDR content. Furthermore, the chipset is equipped with the 5G New Radio (NR) sub-6GHz modem with carrier aggregation that supports upto 120MHz bandwidth. It also supports dual-SIM 5G standby function, 5G SA/NSA networking and dual-SIM VoNR voice services.
The Dimensity 900 is also integrated with the company’s Imagiq 5.0 native HDR image signal processor with a 4K HDR video recording engine that supports upto four cameras and 108MP camera sensors. It also supports MiraVision with upgraded video capabilities from SDR to HDR with real-time enhancements of HDR10+ video playback.
“Dimensity 900 brings a suite of connectivity, display and 4K HDR visual enhancements to high-tier 5G smartphones and gives brands great design flexibility for their 5G portfolios. The chipset’s support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6 ensures users get the most of out their devices with super-fast and reliable connectivity,” said Dr JC Hsu, Corporate VP and GM of MediaTek's Wireless Communications Business Unit.
MediaTek Dimensity 900 powered smartphones are expected to launch sometime in Q2 2021. It is rumoured that the Oppo Reno 6 could be the first smartphone to be powered by the Dimensity 900 5G processor.
